Purpose of this website

Information and memorial website about Sir Ludwig “Poppa” Guttmann (1899–1980), founder of the National Spinal Injuries Centre at Stoke Mandeville and of the Paralympic Games, and about the work of the Poppa Guttmann Trust. The Trust’s charitable objects are to advance the education of the public in the history of the Paralympic movement and the work of Sir Ludwig Guttmann; to promote the treatment and rehabilitation of people with physical, mental and sensory impairment through programmes of education, art and recreational activities; and to promote art for the public benefit through the life-size bronze statue of Sir Ludwig Guttmann.
